About the Artist

Name: Marvi Khan

School: Emily Carr University of Art + Design

Program: Visual Arts

Artist Bio: Marvi Khan is a Pakistani-Canadian artist born in Milton, Ontario. She currently resides in Vancouver, British Columbia. She has recently completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. She is set to begin her Master of Fine Arts at Glasgow School of Art in Scotland later this year. Marvi’s art reflects her interest in humanity’s intangible thoughts and feelings. In her practice, she explores elements of abstraction through painting, drawing, and mixed media collage. Marvi’s work has been featured in group shows such as the Langley Arts Council’s “My Heritage” and annual “Creating for Change” exhibitions, as well as the Seymour Art Gallery’s yearly art party fundraiser. Additionally, she has sold her work in North Van Arts' annual "North Shore Art Crawl". She is also bringing her work back to Milton by participating in this year's "Kala: Colours of South Asia" exhibit. In her free time, Marvi gives back to her community by volunteering at local art galleries, such as the Polygon Gallery.

Artistic Statement: Capturing the aspects of the mind and body that do not have a tangible appearance. I wanted to focus on the different "masks" that people put on when facing the public, their loved ones, and themselves.
