Artist Bio: My name is Joshua Kennington, and I'm an artist based in Toronto, Canada.
My practice explores memory, nostalgia and the fleeting moment, drawing inspiration from impressionist painting and abstract symbolism, tying these concepts together with sculptural grounding techniques to highlight concepts of perception, memory and temporality.

Artistic Statement: This work, based on a roadtrip to the deserts of the South-western United States, reflects on the notion of perception, and how a place is remembered and recalled as it was from a single moment in time. The use of textured gesso highlights this notion of a single perspective, a single story amidst a large, ever expanding scene of open skies and bold, bright orange rocks, giving new meaning to a landscape, but still accurately portraying the physicality of the land. The road serves as a crux, a means of deciding whether to go down that road and potentially find opportunity, or to ponder, to reconsider one's options ahead, all while being enveloped in this open land.
