Artist Bio: Ellena Sardo is a GTA-based artist specializing in oil and acrylic painting, with a focus on figurative realism and abstraction. Her work is distinguished by a vibrant use of colour, particularly in her signature Ardency Series which explore the emotional and energetic dimensions of the human form.
A graduate of OCAD University with a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) and a Minor in Material Art and Design, Sardo brings a multidisciplinary approach to her artist identity. In addition to painting, she explores the relationship between the body and art through jewelry and body adornment. About the Artwork

Medium: Painting

Size: 36" x 48" x 1.5"

Artistic Statement: Ardency explores the complex relationship between movement, energy, and the human body. Through these works, I investigate how physical expression can be conveyed not just through the figure itself but through the energy and emotions that it embodies.
I have always been drawn to the aesthetics of the body, its anatomy and physiognomy, but it is the way the body physically expresses oneself through dance that truly inspires me. By deconstructing the body into simplified, gestural forms, I aim to capture the essence of dance, creating a dialogue between abstraction and realism.
The resulting paintings are a visual exploration of the body and its potential to convey passion and admiration. By breaking down anatomy and rebuilding it through fluid shapes and gestural marks, I invite viewers to see the body transcend its literal form. Each piece reflects a personal perception of physicality, dance and movement, emphasizing a moment of ardency that speaks to our ability to communicate, to feel, and to express ourselves, even in the stillness of a painting.
