About the Artwork
Medium: Mixed Media Textile
Size: 48"W x 48"H x 3"D
Artistic Statement: In “Circles of Resonance,” hundreds of hand‑wound string loops float across a fabric field, each circle a vessel of memory and motion. Drawing from my Filipino–Mexican heritage and the rhythmic pulse of the West Coast, I wrap colored threads—some hand‑dyed, others reclaimed—into concentric forms that suggest ripples in water or the pulse of community.
The repetition of circles speaks to cycles of migration and return, while the slight irregularities in each loop honor the individual stories woven into collective experience. Suspended against layered textiles, the strings cast shifting shadows that change with the light, inviting viewers to witness the interplay between unity and singularity.
Through “Circles of Resonance,” I explore how simple gestures—wrapping, layering, repeating—can map the invisible ties that bind us to place, to one another, and to the past.
